The South African Police Service (SAPS) is launching its recruitment drive, seeking dedicated citizens ready to safeguard and proudly serve their nation by pursuing a career as entry-level Police Trainees.

Remuneration Details:

INSTITUTION PHASE (BASIC TRAINING IN THE ACADEMIES)

  • Monthly Stipend: R4500 PROBATION PHASE (AFTER TRAINING IN THE ACADEMIES)
  • Annual Salary: R216,033
  • Additional service benefits during probation phase

Appointment Act: SAPS Act, 1995 (Act No 68 of 1995)

Successful candidates will be contracted as Police Trainees, fulfilling the following core functions upon completion of their training:

  • Prevent, combat, and investigate crime
  • Maintain public order
  • Protect and secure the country’s residents and property
  • Uphold and enforce the law

BASIC POLICE DEVELOPMENT LEARNING PROGRAMME (BPDLP)

Chosen applicants will undergo the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (referred to as the PROGRAMME) for a duration of 21 months, divided into three phases:

Induction Phase

  • Duration: 1 month
  • Matriculants / Graduates in other specializations
  • Stipend: R4500 per month

Basic Training Phase

  • Duration: 8 months (Matriculants / Graduates in other specializations), 6 months (Law graduates)
  • Training location: Designated SAPS Academy
  • Stipend: R4500 per month

Probation Phase

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Workplace Exposure Programme
  • Annual Salary: R216,033

During the Basic Training Phase, trainees will receive free training gear, meals, accommodation, and medical aid benefits. Successful completion of the program qualifies trainees for permanent appointments as Constables within the SAPS.

Placement: Upon completing the Institution Phase, successful candidates will be trained at a SAPS Academy in South Africa and subsequently placed at a Police Station / Unit within the country.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must:

  • Possess permanent residence in the Republic of South Africa (documentary proof required)
  • Hold a grade 12 school certificate or equivalent qualification (documentary proof required)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license for a light motor vehicle (advantageous)
  • Be proficient in English and at least one other official language
  • Be aged between 18 and 35 (documentary proof required)
  • Have no prior criminal convictions, be willing to undergo fingerprinting and background checks
  • Not have visible tattoo marks when wearing a uniform
  • Be willing to take the oath of office
  • Undergo a physical medical examination and meet the required physical and mental fitness standards
  • Pass a psychological assessment as determined by the National Commissioner
